As God’s people, it seems we always live in the worst of times. The Bible makes clear how the world will end. “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, . . .treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God–having a form of godliness but denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

Simon Peter (through the Holy Spirit) gave us words similar to those of Paul. “First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come scoffing and following their own evil desires” (2 Peter 3: 3). These men will scoff that God exists and will exalt nature over God. Sound familiar? They will ask, “where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation”(2 Peter 3:4).

Peter tells us that God is patient to allow people time to repent but the earth will be destroyed (2 Peter 3:9-10).

He gives us guidance for living in the worst of times.

First, remember this day will be our deliverance. We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness (2 Peter 3 13). At that point, the sorrows of this world will end.

Second, until Jesus comes live holy and Godly lives. Don’t get caught up in the ways of the world or the deteriorating culture. Change the world; don’t let the world change you.

Third, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with God (2 Peter 3: 14).

Fourth, don’t be carried away by the error in the last days. These false words will sound “right,” even reasonable, but we know they are deceptive words given by the evil one (2 Peter 3:17).

Finally, keep on growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3: 18).

Follow these principles and we will be fine no matter what. God does have a plan, and He will take care of His own. Trust and follow Him.
