These Are the Words of Life

Day Ten of “Getting Ready for Christmas.” Read Colossians 1:15-20.

I love this passage of Scripture because it tells me who Jesus is and what He has done.

Read these wonderful words of life.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

These are not the words of the manger or shepherds or wise men, but these words describe why the manger matters. These are the words of life. They describe exactly who Jesus is. He is the fullness of the Godhead, the exact image of the invisible God. He is before all things and in Him all things exist.

He is supreme. In everything He has supremacy. The writer of Hebrews affirmed this doctrine by describing Christ and His work as superior in every way. He is superior to the angels, and He established a superior covenant.

Think of the power of this statement: “He is the firstborn among the dead.” Because He was raised I will be raised as well. His resurrection promises my resurrection.

God sent His Son to reconcile the world unto Himself, making peace through His blood. Though we were alienated from Him, we have been rescued by His death for us. When we were under the power of darkness, Christ brought us into the kingdom of light. By Him, we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1: 12-14).

Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. Back in the day of pulpits I would place a brass placard with Colossians 1:18b (” . . . that in all things he might have the preeminence”) where no preacher/speaker (especially me!) could miss it. The message is central and Jesus is central to the message and that small placard was an ever present reminder of that truth. Your Christmas posts have wonderfully reminded us that it is all about Jesus.

  2. Truly, the Word of Life has been, is and will be Spoken: all around us, in us, through us.

To Act as One is the Charge, the Mission, the Purpose, His Glory and Pleasure for which We are equipped.

Failure is not an option, for we are without excuse.

    Thank you, both!

    Blessings
