You Need to Pray for This

As followers of Christ, we have a responsibility to pray for one another.

Today, I want to give you two needs for which to pray.

First, pray for Dr. Kent Brantly, a young physician serving in Liberia. Dr. Brantly serves with Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief organization led by Franklin Graham.

Dr. Brantly is the first American to be infected with the deadly Ebola virus. Dr. Brantly calls himself “a young Christian doctor putting his faith to work in the world.”

Shortly after he arrived in October of 2013, Kent Brantly found himself on the front lines of the worst Ebola outbreak ever. Ebola was first observed in 1976 in the Ebola River valley in the Republic of Congo. As you probably know Ebola is a deadly disease with mortality rates as high as 90 percent. No vaccines or cures exist.

Please pray for this young  33 year old doctor and father of two.

Shortly after Dr. Brantly’s infection American missionary Nancy Writebol in Liberia became the second American known to have contracted the disease.

Please pray for these two by name.

Second, pray for persecuted Christians around the world, particularly in Iraq where ISIS is beheading followers of Christ. They mark houses of Christians with the Arabic letter N, which stands for “Nazarene.”

As we pray for these believers who are undergoing unimaginable persecution, let us all become “Nazarenes.”

Recently I finished reading through the biblical book of The Revelation. Near the end, John the Apostle told of his vision of heaven. “I saw thrones, and sitting on those thrones were the ones who had been given the right to judge. I also saw the souls of the people who had their heads cut off because they had told about Jesus and preached God’s message. They were the same ones who had not worshiped the beast or the idol, and they had refused to let its mark be put on their foreheads or hands. . . . These people are the first to be raised to life, and they are especially blessed and holy. The second death has no power over them. They will be priests for God and Christ and will rule with them for 1,000 years” (Revelation 20: 4-6).

  1. Thank you Dr Bailey for writing about Dr Brantly. I heard about him yesterday on NPR and started praying for him. The report said he told a friend, after knowing he was ill, that he was still sure of God’s call. What a blessing that must be to him at this time. May God’s will be done on earth/ in Dr Brantly’s life, as it is done in heaven- perfectly and completely.
