Yesterday I preached from Ephesians 5:1–6, a passage of Scripture that deals with the importance of holy living by shunning immorality, impurity, and greed.

The passage shows the significance of removing those things from our lives. Paul said that we all know that no one who does these things can enter into the kingdom of God.

Why is this the case? Why do these actions matter to God?

First, immorality, impurity, and greed strike at the heart of who God created us to be. He called us to live in loving devotion to him. These rebellious acts harm us and harm our relationship with God.

Second, these acts are in open defiance of who God is. The Bible makes it clear that God is faithful, pure, and generous. When we live in immorality, impurity, and greed, we are living the exact opposite of God and His ways.

No wonder the person who goes on living in immorality and greed cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. He has no stake in heaven or any likeness to heavenly ways.

What should we do?

We should seek God and His direction for our lives. We should ask him to change our hearts and our attitudes so that we might also change our actions.

We should turn from the way we have lived and turn toward the living God.

Here’s the good news. God wants you to know Him and to live with Him forever. He has provided the way for your salvation.

Open your heart to Christ and trust Him for all of your life. Ask Him to bring day by day changes in your heart. Do these and you will please God and you will be blessed by His presence.
