Some Trust in Chariots but We Trust in the Name of the Lord

“This is the most positive portrayal of a Christian in a mainstream film that I have seen since Chariots of Fire”–Greg Laurie, about the film “Hacksaw Ridge”.

“Idolatry is trusting anyone or anything more than we trust in God.  . .  .Tragically, our culture ignores and practices this sin continually.  Whereas our nation’s founders repeatedly called for national days of repentance and prayer, when was the last time a contemporary political leader issued such a call? When last did a national leader admit that we are facing challenges greater and graver then we can overcome in our strength?”–Jim Denison.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7).

“We can make a difference. I am only one and cannot do everything, but I am one, and I can do something. May God help every one of us to stand tall and strong for life, and even the life of the unborn”–Ron Herrod.

“What the world values is seldom what God rewards (1 Samuel 16:7). Today’s election is pivotal in many ways, but the throne of God is higher than the Oval Office (Isaiah 6:1)”–Jim Denison.

”I’ve always considered the first business of the day to get my own soul happy in the Lord”–George Mueller.

“Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell, I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of Hell”–C.T. Studd.

  1. One of the first songs I learned as a Christian was this victory song, I still sing it today. It speaks strongly of trusting God to win the battle and where to put our hope. I will share it with the men today as I lead our class discussion on Joshua, God’s warrior hero.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God
Some trust in chariots and some in horses
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God
Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed
He will hear them from his holy heaven
With the saving strength of his right hand
They are brought down and fallen (buff!)
But we are risen and stand upright
Some trust in chariots and some in horses
