Yesterday, I spent most of the day in central Louisiana at a meeting of Louisiana Baptist leaders. Many of those are pastors of churches.
Anytime pastors get together they talk about the demands of the job. How do you finish large projects? How do you prepare three or four sermons or Bible studies a week?
The answer is really very simple. The answer also applies to many, many things that don’t have anything to do with sermons or Bible studies or even anything in the church.
It has everything to do with life.
How do you get big projects completed? You break them into small pieces and finish one piece at a time.
As simple as the answer is, most people never get to that point. You probably remember the old joke: “How do you eat an elephant?”
The answer is that you break it into thousands of small bites.
There’s not much in life that can’t be accomplished as long as you break the project into small pieces.
Years ago, I remember John Maxwell saying something like this, “It’s amazing how little you can get done in a year, but it’s astounding how much you can get done in 10 years.”
When we are willing to be patient, hard-working, and diligent, we can accomplish great things in life. I want to encourage you to look differently at how you lead your family, make a living, work in your church, or go through life.
So will you. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:34).
Take small bites.

Perfect for the day. Thank you. Reminds me of the quote I like, “Do your best and let God do the rest.”
Thanks so much. Many times people never do anything because the task is too large. Taking small pieces helps getting started.
