Summer @ FBC

I probably don’t have to remind you how busy and hectic the summer can be.   Public schools in St. Tammany Parish are only seven weeks from starting up again.  Isn’t this the first week of summer?

Summer is a large part of what we want to accomplish at FBC.

Let’s discuss our plan for doing ministry.

First, we want to do a week by week ministry that cares for people in the everyday experience of living.   I love the summer and grieve when it is gone, but our ministry must be much more than a summer event.  It has to be steady and consistent, reaching  people as they live life.

Years ago, I heard John Maxwell say how amazed he was at how little could be accomplished in a year but astounded at how much could be accomplished in ten years.  A week by week ministry that is consistent and speaks to how people live allows us to make a real difference.

Second, we want to do the special things that make a big splash.  That’s what summer does for us.  It makes memories and helps people grow.  Vacation Bible School and summer camps provide those kinds of experiences.

This week our Junior High young people attended camp on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, MS.  Next week our older children will attend CentriKid camp at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.  We have a group of 32 kids and volunteers attending from June 27 through July 1.

CentriKid is a good example of what we try to do during the summer.  CentriKid is a five-day, four-night camp for 3rd–6th graders to have a great time and learn more about Jesus.  Every kid gets to participate in exciting activities of their choice. They take part in Bible study, recreation, track times, and worship.

Later this summer, our high school students will participate in World Changers in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  World Changers is a ministry of love and compassion that seeks to change the world one family at a time.

Right now, we have a mission team in Bogota, Columbia.  Later in the summer, we will have a group ministering in Virginia.

Please pray that God would bless us as we do week by week ministry and the special events that give us new opportunities to hear from God.

How is God working in your life week by week and in the special times?
