A Sense of Hope and Excitement

I have been more excited about this August-September than any other since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Here’s what makes it so exciting.

First, we have been blessed to see 36 people make professions of faith and follow Christ in baptism during August alone. This must be close to a record number for such a brief period of time.

For the previous twelve month period, we have received 122 people into the church by profession of faith. We have also had 150 other people who have become members of our church either by transferring their membership from a like-minded church or people who have previously affirmed their faith in Christ and have followed Him in Scriptural baptism.

Last week’s baptismal service at the Bogue Falaya River was a highlight of the year. What an encouragement to see so many people following Christ.

Second, I am thrilled about the sense of excitement and joy that we have in the congregation. Last week, we had guests who have worshiped with us in the past. They remarked that they sensed a very loving church. I agree. I feel that I have a good understanding of the spirit of the church. I see a wonderful unity and sense of purpose. This kind of unity does not happen by accident. Let us remember to offer ourselves to God so that He will continue to bless us.

I knew we were blessed when one of our new people looked at the long line of parents and children signing in on Sunday morning and said: “This will be fine in a couple of weeks.” She meant that everyone would learn the drill and would adapt to it. Her attitude exemplifies a healthy, growing church. When I hear statements such as this, I know that the church will be fine. God blesses love, obedience, and faith.

Third, the number of worshipers, attenders in Bible Fellowship Groups, and new people who are meeting with us is exciting. Over the past twelve months we experienced our largest average attendance in Bible Study ever. Last Sunday 1443 people attended our Bible Fellowship groups. All of this is exciting.

While we are still struggling with enough space for children and adults for Bible Study, that is a good problem to have.

Let us all pray for the continued blessing of God upon His church.
