My Most Popular Post For November

My most read post for November strikes at the very heart of the members of the audience for waylonbailey.com. It deals with the issue of being disqualified for service. My blog concerns Christian Living and Pastoral Leadership. Christians–especially Christian leaders–are concerned with being found faithful. Even Paul talked about his concern to be faithful to his call and ministry. He talked about taking precautions to make sure that after having “preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize” (1 Cor. 9:27).

The post dealt with the devastating story out of State College, Pennsylvania, and the coach with the most wins in NCAA history. Instead of leaving coaching with a legacy of achievement and trust, Joe Paterno left coaching with a black mark that may never be removed.

Christian leaders–both lay and clergy–want to “finish well.” We want to follow our Lord’s words and example. We want to hear at the end of our lives on earth and at the day of judgment “well done, good and faithful servant.”

“What Joe Paterno’s Exit Teaches Us” is about the demands of leadership. We are called to a higher standard. We do know that our actions will affect a multitude of people. We want to make sure that we lead in ways that will bring people closer to God rather than to lead people away.

I can’t believe that any Christian leader deliberately chooses to lead others astray. Rather, we make little compromises which distort our moral compass and ultimately lead to failure and harm to the cause of Christ.

I hope that you will read the lessons of Joe Paterno and Penn State again. May you and I use the sad circumstances and failures of others to look again to our Lord for direction and guidance. You can read it here. http://waylonbailey.com/2011/11/what-joe-paternos-exit-teaches-us/.

May God bless you and your ministry. May you be found faithful in your service for Christ.
