It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

“Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

These words of Isaiah the prophet are generally regarded as Messianic, that is, predicting and being fulfilled in the the coming of Christ.

What does this verse and the entire passage mean to us?

First, the passage shows us that God knows what is going on in our lives. God is involved with His people and aware of our needs.

God is not simply “out there.” He is near. He is Emmanuel, God with us.

Second, this prophecy shows that God is at work to accomplish His will and to meet the needs of His people. The people of Israel knew that God would deliver His people. He had promised to do so, and they knew that God would make good on His promise. When Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the Temple, they encountered two people–Anna and Simeon–who were looking for the deliverance of Israel. They had the full expectation God would do what He had promised.

Third, the passage shows that we have hope. Messianic prophecy is all about hope. It means that with God the future will be better than the past.

What does all this mean for you?

It’s simple–and simply wonderful!

God knows you intimately. He knows everything about your situation.

God cares about everything in your life and is working to bring good out of all the circumstances of your life.

Your future is in good hands. God is carrying out His plan to prepare a place for you and to conform you to the image of Christ.

For all of these reasons, it’s the most wonderful time of the year.
