If You Really Want To Make Church Fun. . .

I want church to be fun! It’s one of the qualities that I have tried to emphasize over the years.

I particularly want children to think of church as fun. For this reason, we do a number of events and ministries that will help children have a positive view of the church. We want them to know that they are valued and loved and that assembling with the people of God is a wonderful event. I want children to have my view of the church, that is, a view that God and His people care about us and that when we are with the church we are blessed.

Recently, we added a new ministry to our church. The people who run it are guys and I have said to several of them: “You have the best job in the church.”

It’s a golf cart ministry! It’s really a ministry to greet and help by giving a ride on a golf cart. The guys meet people who need a ride and help them into the building. We envisioned this to particularly minister to three groups: senior adults, moms with little children and infants, and children. We wanted children to know that church is fun!

Actually, the fun of church is serving. If you want to add to your church experience, look for someone to bless. As you bless others, you will receive the greater blessing. It is more blessed to give than to receive. As we help other people know God and respond to Him, church will become much more fun, one of those places that you simply cannot miss.

The next step in your Christian maturity is to find a place of service and give it your best. More than anything, this makes church something that you think about all week long and something that you anticipate occurring.

Recently, I wrote about “Your Sunday Morning Routine.” Click on the title to view what I wrote about service for God through His church.

Let me tell you about an area of service for everybody. Arrive at worship early and seek out people to greet and encourage. Help new people find where they need to get. By arriving early, you can even walk them to where they are going.

If you want to make church fun, find a place to serve and give it your all. Whatever you do in word or in deed, do it all for the glory of God.
