This year marks the 200th year of statehood for Louisiana. It should be a wonderful year as we look back over the history of our wonderful state.
This also marks the 200th year of Baptist work in the state.
It has been a good 200 years. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. This is where God has planted my family, and I am thankful for it.
At the same time, something is wrong.
Louisiana leads the nation in murders per 100,000 people.
Louisiana has the second highest crime rate in the nation. We lead the nation in certain forms of sexually transmitted diseases. Last year, Louisiana had over 8100 babies aborted. We all know that something is wrong.
What can we do? We can pray. We can plead with God for a spiritual awakening that takes Him and His Word seriously. In the 200 years of statehood and Baptist work, we have never seen a spiritual awakening like those that have occurred in other places. It really is time.
Would you join me in praying–pleading with God for an outpouring of His Spirit, the kind of outpouring that can come only from Him?

In the Old Testament when Solomon dedicated the Temple to God, Solomon asked God what he should do in response to darkness and rebellion. God responded:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place” (2 Chronicles 7:14-15).
It’s time. Let us pray.
