Top Posts For 2011 #10

Last year proved to be an exciting time for me. I felt led to begin this blog and started off by posting a couple of times a week. Almost immediately, I moved to four days a week and followed that regimen for several months. Now, I post every day and look forward to the challenge. Initially, I chose five categories to write about and shortly before the end of the year I updated to six categories.

Stories Worth Telling became one of the most popular categories. Check out Stories Worth Telling in the categories section on the right side of the page. By clicking on Stories Worth Telling, you can see all of the posts in this category.

One of the most popular stories in the category and one of my most popular posts for the entire year is a story about a Vietnam Veteran named Charlie Plumb. Charlie Plumb spent six years as a POW in Vietnam. That in itself would be a heart wrenching story, but that’s only a small part of the story. The larger part has to do with what happened when he returned. The story is worth reading or rereading. It’s named after an encounter that Charlie Plumb had after his return and a question that he asks often: “Who’s PackingYour Parachute?”

The post and the story have to do with gratitude, especially gratitude for the people around you who make your life and your ministry possible. This is the question that has to be answered: “Am I expressing gratitude for the people who selflessly make my life and my job easier?” Another way to ask it is this: “Am I taking the people around me for granted?”

Who’s packing your parachute? Who needs to be acknowledged or appreciated? Who needs to be called in to your office–to be thanked? Here’s what I said about this subject in another post.

We all have people who make our lives easier and happier. Maybe the people you need to thank most live in your own home.

Who’s packing your parachute?

  1. Thank you for the reminder of a position I have long held but do not act on enough. Our ability to be and accomplish are a direct result of our interdependence on others with our dependence on God working though us and those “others.” Romans 12: 4-6

    AMEN
