What Can We Expect At The Return Of Christ?

The disciples were fascinated with the end of the age. They wanted to know when those things would take place and what would be the sign they were about to begin. We may be more fascinated with the same kinds of questions. We want to know when Christ will return and the exact events which will take place.

We may not know the exact specifics of the return of Christ, but we can know He will return. We can also know some aspects which are important to us.

What can we expect at the return of Christ?

Paul answered this question as he answered a question of vital importance to the people of Corinth. Paul affirmed that Christ has indeed been raised from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:20) and at His return the dead in Christ will also be raised.

Here are events we can be sure of when Christ returns.

First, the dead will be raised. Paul confidently asserted that the risen Lord had appeared to him (1 Corinthians 15:7). Based on the Lord’s revelation, he assured his readers that Christ had been raised as the firstfruits of the resurrection.

Sin and death entered the world through the first man Adam and resurrection will come through the second man Christ. This resurrection to life will come to all those who are “in Christ.” The Bible does not teach of an immortal soul but of a God who gives life through His Son. The Bible teaches that this hope is in Christ alone. Those who have trusted in Him will enjoy the benefits of the resurrection to life.

Second, Christ will finally be recognized for who He is. He will subject all things to His rule. When He returns He will defeat the great enemies whether angels or demons (all dominion, authority, or power, 1 Corinthians 15:23).

Finally, death will be utterly and completely defeated. Adam’s curse will finally be removed. The Lord will indeed reign forever and forever.

  1. Thank you for having brought speakers to the congregation who have been eye witnesses to Heaven, as it is, while the battle for souls is going on and as it is to come. May those who read this have confidence they are doing works meet for repentance so, “when the role is called up yonder we’ll be there.” 2 Peter 1:5-11.
    2 Peter 3:14-18.
