Sometimes You Need A Wakeup Call

I’ve often said there is nothing as abrupt as an alarm clock. Now, an inventor has invented the world’s most exasperating clock as well.

He invented an alarm clock that can’t be turned off. It won’t give you five more minutes, and it won’t stop. You can’t uplug it or make it quit. You can’t reset the alarm for a later time. You must get out of bed.

The only way to get rid of the annoying sound is to physically get out of bed and walk to the bathroom or kitchen where you punch in the day’s date into a telephone type keypad. Finally, the loud “ding-ding” designed purposefully to sound like an angry customer banging on a concierge bell at a hotel is finished.

This one of a kind alarm clock was invented by Paul Sammut, a 25-year-old engineer who lives in Hoboken, NJ. During the day, he’s a mild mannered engineer. In his spare time he builds aggravating alarms.

He build the alarm clock for himself because he found it difficult to get out of bed and get to work on time.

“I wanted to make something that would essentially force me to get out of bed when I wanted to get out of bed the night before,” said Sammut. “And I was thinking about ways of doing it and I thought about how in high school I had the perfect solution to this, which was my mother, and how she would, if it was time for me to wake up, she would force me out of bed.”

He uses it every day.

“Now I wake up before it goes off,” said Sammut. “I subconsciously fear it and know I have to get up.”

Sometimes we simply need a wake up call. Maybe that’s where you are right now.

Maybe it goes something like this: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
