Christ’s Medicine

Each year our Christmas Eve services are some of the largest services of anytime in the year. We established the services years ago and have held to a fairly consistent format ever since.

A typical Christmas Eve worship service contains joyful music, Scripture reading, a children’s sermon and a brief sermon. One o0f the highlights is that we take the Lord’s Supper.

At our church, the Lord’s Supper means the people walk forward to pick up the bread and the cup. The cup is the typical size plastic cup for the Lord’s Supper. When the supper is completed, the cup is not washed but simply discarded.

After last year’s Christmas Eve service, one of the families in our church sent the following email:

“Our 3-year old grandson was at the 3:00 Christmas Eve service.  When we had finished taking the Lord’s Supper, he asked “How come everyone got medicine and I didn’t”?

We thought that was so cute.  Later I thought of how wonderful the medicine God provided through Jesus is to cure our ultimate sickness of sin.”

They were right on. The Lord’s Supper reminds us that though Christ was not ill, he became our medicine for us.

He who knew no sin, became sin for us. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  2. Hey Waylon, I am thoroughly enjoying your posts. WOW they are awesome just like the AWESOME GOD we serve! I stumbled onto this as I was looking on your website to see what station your Sunday broadcast comes on and I am so glad I did. I didn’t know Martha had written a second book so I bought it. It is great and I am receiving a blessing as I read it. We are still in Bogalusa at SABC; we have a wonderful young pastor who reminds me a lot of you. Thanks for your posts. They are very uplifting and encouraging and I will share with friends and family.
