Not Your Father’s VBS

Vacation Bible School has really changed over the years. Today VBS has elaborate sets and numerous volunteers. We now have VBX (5th and 6th graders) as well as VBS. Our planning team meets almost year round to evaluate, pray, and plan. As I’ve often said, “The people who plan and run VBS could run a small country.”

At the same time,VBS is what it has always been. VBS is always about the Bible, and it is all about children getting to know God. We even still have the pledge of allegiance to the flags and to the Bible.

What I like about the “new” VBS is the energy and just plain fun. Kids love VBS. They are excited to be here, and they are getting a lot out of it. Look at the attendance. After the first day, we have 987 kids enrolled, almost 100 more than at the same time last year. Monday we had over 1100 workers and students present.

I am thankful for the promise of VBS and VBX. We are blessed to have the opportunity to touch so many families with the Gospel. VBS is one of the great tools today to spread the good news of Jesus.

May God bless VBS in our church and in your churches across the country and around the world.

  1. God Bless VBS indeed. The lives giving and receiving, may they be forever changed for the Glory of Him who gave us the Mind of God, the State of Man, the way of Salvation. Amen.
