Quotations You Can Use (July 20, 2012)

“We ought, therefore, to be very careful how we fulfill the common tasks of daily life. We are making the character in which we have to spend eternity. We are either building into ourselves wood, hay, and stubble which will have to be burnt out at great cost; or the gold, silver, and precious stones, that shall be things of beauty and joy forever”–F.B. Meyer, Light for Life’s Duties, 44.

“The pronouns ‘my’ and ‘mine’ look innocent enough in print, but their constant and universal use is significant. They express the real nature of the old Adamic man better than a thousand volumes of theology could do. They are verbal symptoms of our deep disease. The roots of our hearts have grown down into things, and we dare not pull up one rootlet lest we die. Things have become necessary to us, a development never originally intended. God’s gifts now take the place of God, and the whole course of nature is upset by the monstrous substitution”–A.W.Tozer, The Pursuit of God, 17.

“There was a day when I died: died to George Mueller, his opinions, preferences, tastes, and will; died to the world, its approval or censure; died to the approval or blame even of my brethren or friends, and since then, I have studied only to show myself ‘approved unto God'”–George Mueller.

“It is love of God, admiration and confidence in his greatness and goodness, and the regular experience of his care that free us from the burden of ‘looking out for ourselves'”–Dallas Willard, Renovation of the Heart: Putting on the Character of Christ, 70.

“I believe that nothing, nothing can be politically right if it’s biblically wrong”–Fred Luter, Jr.

  1. All excellent quotes, but Fred Luter, Jr. really hit the nail on the head! Thanks for sharing. We miss you two!

  2. Fred Luter’s statement made the biggest impact. It best evokes the essential reference of our founding fathers, United States of America.

Why is it then so often I have heard: “Lets leave the Bible out of this!”
