I Think I’ll Have Chicken

Last week Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy created a firestorm when he gave an interview to the Biblical Recorder, the Baptist state paper for North Carolina. In the interview, Dan Cathy stated the goal of the company is to follow biblical principles, including the principle of marriage.

In a day when CEOs (like Target, JC Penney, Nabisco, and General Mills) appear to be lining up to see who can be the biggest supporter of same-sex marriage, Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A are an anomaly.

But, Chick-fil-A has always been this way. Truett Cathy founded the company at age 46 and built the company to $4 billion in sales with 1600 stores nation wide. At 91, he is still active in the company. The Cathy family simply wants to treat people the way Jesus did.

It’s certainly hard not to respect Chick-fil-A. They close on Sundays to allow their employees to go to church if they wish. They provide a great product with great service. I truly believe they mean it when they say, “My pleasure” in response to my thank you.

I love their chicken and their service, but I respect the way they seek to live biblical principles.

This is what Dan Cathy said in the interview: “We are very much supportive of the family–the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

As you might expect, gay rights advocates are calling for a boycott of Chick-fil-A. I like Governor Mike Huckabee’s suggestion. He has asked people to drop by Chick-fil-A on August 1. He isn’t asking people to make signs or anything else, just drop by and have a sandwich. BTW, the chargrilled chicken sandwich is lower in calories and really good. That’ll be my order August 1.

We all understand we are in a huge conflict for our future. Would you pray for godly business people? They are under tremendous pressure. Thank God for those who put their biblical faith over financial pressure.

  1. I stopped recently with my Grandson so he could have a bite on the way home. His older sister we found had gone out to pick up a meal for the family, my wife thought she’d treat and meet me at their house. We all arrived with our Chick-fil-A and even bigger smiles as we realized what had happened.

I didn’t know about GIS. Thanks. It is good to support Christian family.

    Blessings!

  2. Thank God for someone standing up for Christian Principles. I became a HUGE fan of Chick-Fil-A last week. I hope someone will compile a list of businesses, celebrities and politicians who support the so call rights of Gays and Lesbians so we can boycott them.

  3. In all honesty I have never eaten at a Chick-Fil-A but now I will have to start. If nothing more than to garner my support.

  4. Mr. Cathy said something else that caught my attention in his interview with Governor Mike Huckabee, Chic-fi-lA Restaurants WELCOME & SERVE EVERYONE! Jim Henson & The Muppets have decided to make a statement by breaking ties with Chic-fi-lA. My family will certainly enjoy Chic-fi-lA’s great hospitality and food Wednesday and others will enjoy the gift certificates they are given-muppets or not. This will not be done to insult anyone, but to support a brother in Christ who strives to honor God, our Creator.

  5. I have already spoken out in FB in support of Chic Fi Let and gave written the company and told them how much I appreciated their values. I will be there on Aug. 1

  6. The Boy Scouts have taken a lot of heat for their stance against gay members. We need to lift this organization up in pray. They stand to loose their status as a character building organization because of their decision. Eagle Scouts are revered for their entire life for their achievements. It would be a sad day in America if they are instead looked down upon because Boy Scouts will not support the gay agenda.

  7. The Air Force believes it finally understands the cause of hypoxia-like issues affecting some F-22 pilots in the last several years, and is taking a “phased approach” to retrofitting hardware and getting flight restrictions lifted on the stealth jets, said outgoing Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, July 24, 2012. Here, an F-22 from the 1st Fighter Wing at JB Langley-Eustis, Va., pulls away from a KC-135 tanker after refueling off the US East Coast, July 10, 2012.

  8. We went to dinner with friends and discussed this very topic since we were with friends who are managers. My family will continue to support Chick fil a. See you AUg. 1st.

  9. August 1 lunch order: a number 1 with a Coke Zero. Plus if they still have the peach milkshake deal going I might get one of those.

One of the best testimonies of a business to me when I was a kid was walking into a mall on a Sunday afternoon and seeing all the businesses opened and the Chick Fil A closed up tight.

  10. I wish there was a way for me to support Chick-fil-A from where I live. I do not have a Chick-fil-A in my state. I love Chick-fil-A and miss their food. I am grateful that they are standing firm on their beliefs even though there are many who do not agree with them. This is a free country. They should be able to stand on their beliefs without being labelled bigotted or hate mongers. I read Dan Cathy’s statement and there was not anything in it that was hateful. It just wasn’t politically correct as some people would see it. Bravo Chick-fil-A!! Wish you had a restaurant close to me. I would be there with bells on!
