Bringing July To A Close

Martha and I have enjoyed our time away during the month of July. We have had the opportunity to spend time with family and also to gear up for an exciting start to the new school year. We hope you have had similar opportunities.

This weekend Martha and I are making a quick trip to Sugar Land, Texas, to visit Brad, Emily, Reagan, and Luke. Reagan is now four and so much like Emily to bring “blessed flashbacks” to our minds. Luke is already seven weeks old and is growing and changing. We can’t wait to see him.

We had a great time at the beach with Chris, Anna, Jake, and Chase and enjoyed visiting with my mother and Martha’s sister in Brantley.

Thanks to the folks of FBC, Covington for graciously granting us this time.

We have also had time to think, reflect, pray, and consider the work ahead of us. As has been my practice each July, I have had the opportunity to read through the New Testament. What a blessing this is. I have also enjoyed reading a number of books which have challenged and blessed me spiritually.

My new sermon series will come from the Book of Acts. I am very excited about this series of “Turning Points.” Baptist theologian Frank Stagg characterized Acts as the Holy Spirit “breaking down barriers to the Gospel.” The sermons will come from those significant turning points in the early church and the preaching of the Gospel. I hope those of you in the region of south Louisiana will be with us next week for the first sermon from Acts 1 about the Ascension of Jesus.

This Wednesday, August 1, we begin our Wednesday services and activities anew. Each Wednesday night I teach a verse by verse study from the Bible. This week we will begin the Gospel of Mark. The Gospel of Mark is basic to the message of Jesus. It would be a great place for a new believer or a seasoned follower of Christ.

Finally, our Tuesday Men’s Breakfasts will be leadership lessons from the Book of Joshua. They will begin anew Tuesday, August 7, at 6:30 AM with a hearty breakfast.

Martha is looking forward to teaching from the Book of Exodus each Wednesday. Can you imagine teaching 200 women each week? I can’t. She would love for our women and the ladies of the community to join in a time of joy, inspiration, and blessing from God’s Word.

We are excited to be back with our church this Wednesday. May God bless you.
