Pastor Youcef Freed

We received great news out of Iran yesterday. Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani was freed from prison after serving three years because of his Christian faith.

Details are still sketchy at this point, but this is definitely good news.

You may recall that Pastor Youcef, a 32 year old Iranian Christian, refused to recant his faith. For this crime, he has served three years in prison and has been under the sentence of death. Yesterday after a six hour trial he was released. Thank God for His mercy and protection. You can read previous posts about Pastor Youcef here.

This is one man’s and one families’ ordeal, but it has implications for all of us. What should we learn from this?

First, we should remember the power of prayer. People around the world have been praying for Pastor Youcef. We should remember to pray in all things, believing that God is and that He cares for His children.

Second, we should remember the power of people speaking out for right. World public opinion may have had a part in the Iranian decision. We should remember to express our opinions for right in our own communities.

Third, we should remember the power of God. The same God who brought about the release of Simon Peter and Paul and Silas from prison also brought the release of Pastor Youcef.

Finally, we should remember how precious religious freedom is. We have been given a great right. We need to remember that right and do all within our power to protect it. Remember the first amendment to the constitution doesn’t limit our worship and practice. It limits government interference. The first words of the Bill of Rights state: “Congress may make no law . . .” This is a precious freedom which should be exercised and protected. You do have the freedom to pray, read your Bible, and live out your faith.

Do all within your power to protect our freedom. Vote for people who respect the constitution and who respect the freedoms which have been “endowed by our creator.”

  1. Ephesians 4:30 NKJV. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Let us remember the Helper’s work. He has done this by His power and grace. Amen.

  2. We should remember our First Amendment was brought with a price and it takes a price to maintain that “right” of the Bill of Rights, as it does to maintain them all. What is done locally opens up good or bad behavior regarding what is done generally. If you are faithful in little there is a relationship to the much.

Thanks for the news! It seems that his “my problem” does affect others, it affects eternally. Your points to remember are well taken by this reader who understands the “Widow’s mite” represented her faith: the Lord God’s provision was found within His People, somewhere. If it was not to be found anywhere, then the point of all LIFE was lost.

  3. I rejoice to hear this wonderful news, and thank you for reminding us of all that went into it, and the privileges that we so often take for granted!
