Do You Choose Love Of Country Or Love Of God?

I never thought I would see this in America. American companies led by people of faith are having to decide to follow the country they love or remain faithful to the God they serve. They appanently can no longer do both.

Most of this, of course, has to do with the healthcare mandate in the Affordable Care Act (also known as ObamaCare). Within the mandate, companies are required to pay health insurance to cover areas which violate the conscience of those who lead the companies, especially in the area of abortion and abortion inducing drugs.

The most recent company to file suit against the Obama administration and its mandate is Hobby Lobby, the giant arts and crafts retailer.

Hobby Lobby, like a number of very successful companies, is led by Christians who seek to run their company by Biblical principles. In fact, David Green, the CEO and founder of Hobby Lobby, says the companies’ success is a result of the companies’ following of Biblical principles.

Hobby Lobby, which began in 1972, now has over 500 stores in 41 states. The company employs 13,000 people. The stores are closed on Sundays and employs chaplains who minister to the spiritual and emotional needs of its employees.

The Greens also own a chain of bookstores named Mardel. If the mandate holds, both companies will be required to pay fines of $1.3 million for each day they do not comply with the mandate. The founding fathers knew that the ability to tax is the ability to coerce.

At this writing over 80 plantiffs have filed suit against the federal government in 29 separate lawsuits.

David Green says: “The conflict for me is that our family is being forced to choose between following the laws of the country that we love or maintaining the religious beliefs that have made our business successful and have supported our family and thousands of our employees and their families.”

Who would want to have that conflict, and what government would force that kind of difficulty for an American company?

Let us pray for the Greens and for all companies and individuals who seek to honor God while employing others and loving their country.

  1. You may have to stand in the room selling Cool Aid and support the selling of Cool Aid but you don’t have to drink the Cool Aid.

    I’ve emailed you about “Trust.”

May we be iron sharpening iron, supporting each other in the Faith, He who is the Author and Finisher of every good work. It is nice to see from this side the finish, but it should not be necessary. That does not keep me from wanting to see victory from this side, measured in any increment.

    Blessings!

  2. Our unborn children are among our most fragile. Prayers are on-going for them, born babies, children, youth and college age young people. Please email, sbge28@bellsouth.net, if you are interested in meeting weekly to pray for our youngest.
