Choose Which Wisdom You Want

Everyone has the opportunity to experience two kinds of wisdom, a wisdom that is worldly wise and a wisdom which comes from heaven.

At first look or thought, you would think we all would follow the latter wisdom, the wisdom that comes from above and is pure, peace-loving, and considerate. We all know this isn’t the wisdom most people choose.

What are these two wisdoms and what is the difference between the two?

The first choice and the one chosen by almost everyone on the planet is earthly wisdom. Instead of looking to God for guidance, we choose the way that seems right to us. The Bible says that kind of wisdom ultimately leads to destruction.

The Apostle James showed us the result of earthly wisdom–it results in envy and selfish ambition. Envy and selfishness eventually lead to every kind of of evil practice.

Who would choose that kind of wisdom? Yet, the world is filled with people who make decisions based on what they want.

There is another way to make decisions–make decisions based on what God wants. Wisdom which comes from God produces a vastly different result. The wisdom which comes from above–that is, from heaven itself–produces righteousness. It produces righteousness and good acts because of its character. Good character produces good works; evil character produces evil works.

Therefore, the wisdom which is from above produces righteousness because it is “first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere” (James 3:17).

Which result in life do you want? Do you want every kind of evil or right actions? Sometimes we are like the little boy in Sunday School who was asked whether he wanted to be like the rich man (who had plenty in life but went to hell at death) or Lazarus (who had nothing but went to heaven). The boy said he wanted to be like the rich man until he died and then he wanted to be like Lazarus.

Maybe a better question would be which will you choose? You can’t have both; you will have one.

Which will it be?
