Is Heaven Real?

Is heaven real? According to Newsweek, it is. BTW, it’s also real according to the Bible.

What makes Newsweek so interesting is that we are not accustomed to read any of this in Newsweek. I used to be an avid reader of Newsweek but canceled my subscription years ago when I perceived it to be full of fluff (popular culture) and outright left-wing views.

Another interesting aspect of the Newsweek cover story is the author. Dr. Eben Alexander wrote the article. Dr. Alexander currently teaches neurosurgery at the University of Virginia. Formerly, he taught the same subject at Harvard Medical school. He said he originally believed near-death testimonies were the result of trauma to the brain, rather than real out of body experiences.

Dr. Alexander now believes heaven is real and that God is a being of unconditional love. In 2008 Dr. Alexander contracted a very rare form of bacterial meningitis. He lay in a coma for seven days during which the part of his brain that controls emotion and thought shut down. During this time he experienced “something so profound that it gave me a scientific reason to believe in consciousness after death.”

His descibes meeting “shimmering beings” which were “different from anything I have known on this planet. They were more advanced Higher Forms.” He also described a booming sound like a glorious chant which came down from above. “I wondered if the winged beings were producing it. The sound was palpable and almost material, like a rain that you can feel on your skin but doesn’t get you wet.”

I was particularly shocked by his conclusion of the event: “. . .what happened to me was, far from being delusional, as real or more real than any event in my life. That includes my wedding day and the birth of my two sons.” He continued:”I’ve spent decades as a neurosurgeon at some of the most prestigious medical institutions in our country. I know that many of my peers hold as I myself did to the theory that the brain, and in particular the cortex, generates consciousness and that we live in a universe devoid of any kind of emotion, much less the unconditional love that I now know God and the universe have toward us.”

Dr. Alexander now says that his former belief lies broken by what happened to him.

I find this fascinating, but not because it proves heaven. We know heaven is real because of the testimony of God through Scripture and the person of Christ. I find it wonderful that those who have not known God are getting a glimpse of His love, the love we know can only truly be experienced in Christ.

  1. Interesting that he did not say Christ. I am glad you have brought in people who have testified to a heaven with Christ. All the more reason for us to realize how interdependent we are in fulfilling “His Design.” Romans 12: 4-6.
I’ll second the AMEN and raise you one. 😉
    Blessings.

  2. Everyone’s journey is unique, Everyone’s experiences are created to complete God’s plan.
We all can understand without words being spoken and feel immense love without touching.
Listen to the Word spoken by God, seek his truth, and trust in his power, these will bring each of us to that glorious place here on earth. Until our job for the Lord is complete, we must learn how to seek his counsel, wisdom, and fortitude, in order to experience his Peace and Love. Fear is not about being scared, it is about being seperated from the power of his Peace and Love. Through our obedience we will find His Peace.
Adam and Eve lost that Peaceful love when they chose disobedience, Mary and Jesus, showed us how to live obediently, without sin, both entering Heaven immediately. We can too!
CHOOSE to speak up for CHRIST every moment, before the world’s sinful ways take more love and peace away from our heavenly home here own earth. AMEN. GOD BLESS. MERRY CHRISTMAS! PEACE AND LOVE ALWAYS. And enjoy a LOVELY LIFE in Christ’s Way!
