Thanks For Praying

Forty days ago, I and many others asked you to pray for the forty days leading up to the November 6 election or for the forty hours preceding the election. I want to thank you for praying, and I want to ask you to continue to pray. Recent polling shows a consistent belief by the American people that we are headed in the wrong direction. I believe that most of that belief has to do with moral issues. Even those who do not worship God seem to know that something is not right in America.

We can do something about that. On this last Sunday before the presidential election, please join with me in seeking God and His ways. These are actions we can take.

First, let us spend time with God daily, asking Him to bless us with His presence. We have left God out of our lives and out of our nation. The burdens of our nation shows that we have done this. America has been great in the past because of the blessings of God. Let us turn to Him again and invite Him into our lives, our families, our churches, and our nation.

Second, let us ask God to show us our own sin and rebellion. In my own private times with God, I ask Him to show me those areas in my life with which He is not pleased. God wants us to examine our lives and return to Him.

Third, turn away from your sin and turn to God. God wants us to renounce the sin and embrace His righteousness. God tells us to turn from sin and turn toward Him. Have we gotten off track because we have ignored God?

Fourth, ask for the mercies of God. Even at this late time, God may bless us by forgiving our sin and healing our land. Let us pray for His mercy and ask for His blessings. He has promised to heal the land of those who seek Him and turn from their sin (2 Chronicles 7:14).

May God bless us and heal our land.

  1. AMEN!
    40/40
Leviticus 19:18 “18) Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.”
Matthew 22:38-39 “38) This is the greatest and most important commandment. 39) The second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
James 2:8 “8) If you really carry out the royal law prescribed in Scripture, you shall love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well.”

For me this is day 40. It leaves me 48 hours to review the last 40 before the poles open, from the time I am writing this. Wonder if anyone else notices how the verses above deal with relations within the community? In Scripture when a member of the community stole from the community these verses were not the verses we read. What happened when a member did not Love or put their Neighbor or the Lord before their flesh interests? The two prominent examples we have on the “A” list, in fact, were rather prominent in their setting in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Interesting. I always read that confession, repentance and restitution were part of “our” relationship process. Perhaps it depends on the community? Many things are hard to contemplate unless it becomes a “personal” problem. The formula provided by Scripture has merit. You think having sin in the camp has something to do with the effectiveness of God’s Honoring Prayers? “If… Then” look like conditional syntax to me.

Blessings! Then neither do I condemn thee; go, and sin no more.

  2. I’ve noted that many people pray for revival in America, but 2 Chronicles 7:14 begins, “If my people…”. It seems to me that God is calling CHRISTIANS to repentance, not America, in general. But, as David says in Psalm 51, after he received cleansing from his sins, he would then be prepared to “teach transgressors [God’s] ways, so that sinners will turn back to [Him]” (vs. 13).

When, as believers, our hearts are softened to and purified for the purposes of God, we can more effectively influence our nation for righteousness and reach those who don’t know Christ; then our”land” will then be in a better position to be healed.
