Live Free

I have really good news. You don’t have to live in bondage to sin. Whatever struggles you have can be overcome by the power of Jesus.

Christ died to make us free, not simply for eternity but also for this present age. It is His gift, but it is the gift we have to accept and enjoy.

How can we enjoy this gift? Here’s my plan for living free.

First, trust completely in the work of Christ on the cross. Receive Him into your life and submit your self to Him. This is the first and basic step. This step makes you a child of God. You are His and He is yours. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).

Second, spend time daily with God. Take time to pray and take time to read Scripture. As you spend time with God, He will rub off on you. You always become like the people you hang out with. Spend time with God in prayer and Scripture and you will become more like Him.

Pick a special time and special place that suits your circumstances and your personality. You’ll find yourself longing for that time spent with God.

Third, fill your heart with the promises of God. Memorize and pray those Scripture passages which promise you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), a freed person, and dead to sin and alive to Christ (Galatians 2:20; Colossians 3:5).

Finally, walk by the Spirit and walk with the Spirit. Walk with the Spirit by daily submitting your life to Christ. Practice God’s presence by understanding that God is with you and will guide you through the temptations and difficulties of life. Walk by the Spirit by obeying His commands. As Paul said, “walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

God uses all of these ways to give us a way to escape temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). Therefore, we can and should live free.

  1. Interesting, as Irma Scardina said, “I don’t see ugly.” You see she had macular degeneration and could see very little at all. She herself was beautiful, for a widow without children in her eighties who received more support from people outside her “church” when she lost her husband. Yet she always sought out the Lord and sought ways to be of service.

    Blessings.
