What Now?

I am writing this on election day before the close of any state elections. At this point, we know absolutely nothing about the presidential election or the make up of the House of Representatives or the Senate. I have chosen to write at this point deliberately.

For Christians, we need to remember some truths which will always be true, whether a Democrat or a Republican is in the White House and regardless of which party controls the House or Senate.

These are truths we know.

First, God is on His throne. No matter who lives and works in the White House, God is and will be on His throne. No matter what happens to earthly kingdoms, the Kingdom of God is forever and God reigns forever and ever.

Through the years, I have summarized the Book of Revelation in the following way: all earthly kingdoms will inevitably fail but God’s Kingdom reigns forever. Earthly kingdoms will wane but God’s Kingdom will prevail and endure.

Second, trust God in all things. On one particular occasion during this campaign, I poured myself out before God in despair. In the midst of that prayer, I received a word I feel came from God. He told me to trust Him.

No earthy kingdom or administration is the answer to our needs. Only God can be our ultimate answer. We must trust Him. Remember that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble.” No matter what happens we must trust Him.

When Jesus began to turn His face to Jerusalem and many of his “followers” realized that He had come to be a ransom for many, they turned away. Jesus turned to His disciples and asked if they too would turn away. Simon Peter gave one of His most insightful pre-resurrection answers. He asked Jesus: “To whom else can we go, you have the words of life?”

We simply must trust God for our lives.

Third, the work of the kingdom is ahead of us. God has called us to go to all the world with the Gospel. That was God’s command after the resurrection; it will be God’s command when this election is settled.

These are eternal truths. Let us seek to follow them and to do as God calls us.

  1. Beloved, given the context of yesterday. I have some questions.
What a wonderful example by both candidates of Grace in concession and acceptance last night. What a wonderful opportunity to hold our own perspectives, biases up to God’s Lens viewing His Design. What an opportunity to cleanse and refresh in Him. How are we doing in our living Debate? Are we as gracious as MItt Romney? Are we offering our all? Can we present our family as well as President Obama? Are we Honoring God and Country in persuading our neighbor of The More Excellent Way? Just asking….

Leviticus 19:18 “18) Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.”
Matthew 22:38-39 “38) This is the greatest and most important commandment. 39) The second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
James 2:8 “8) If you really carry out the royal law prescribed in Scripture, you shall love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well.”

Are we presenting the Integrity Dr. Bailey preaches in Word and deed, The Living Debate that changes eternity? What did we learn?

    Blessings.
