The People Who Pack Your Parachute

Who are the people who really touch the lives of people?

In church, we see those people over and over. God works through the lives of people who give their best in the service of others. While we can talk about many groups, today I am reminded of those who serve with our preschoolers and children.

Kevin Harless and Darlene Drivon lead these groups in our church. This weekend our preschool and children’s workers were honored by an open house at Darlene’s home. It was their way of saying thanks to a great group of people.

Think with me about how important it is to work with children and preschoolers.

We know personalities get set very early in life. We also know children are touched for a lifetime by those who influence them early in life. We want to do all we can to touch children in a positive way. My goal is to make the church of the Lord Jesus a place where every child feels welcome, loved, and safe. I want children to know that church is a special place given from God Himself.

Jesus always had time for children. He said: “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God” (Luke 18:16). He also reminded us that we should understand the kingdom of God as a child would–as a gift. “Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it” (Luke 18:17).

Thanks to all of you who serve our Lord. On this day, we especially are thankful for our workers with children.

These are the people who pack our parachutes and make an everlasting difference. If you would like to read the origin of “packing your parachute,” please click here.

Sunday night, December 2, we have the privilege of seeing our children as they lead in our worship through music and help get us ready for Christmas. I hope you can join us.
