Do You Take Sin Seriously?

Do you take sin seriously? God certainly does.

Unfortunately, most of us take sin as somewhat serious but not fatal, as potentially tragic but not deadly.

God takes sin seriously because He sees it for what it is. Sin keeps us from God. It destroys our relationship with Him and relationship with others.

God takes sin seriously because He sees the end result and the eternal consequences.

James asked what causes wars and conflicts (James 4:1). Many commentators ask what James meant by such a question. Were the wars in the church, among believers, with God, or within the Christian? I believe James meant all of the above. This is exactly what our sin does. It creates wars and strife.

Think about your own family and church. Do you have peace or war? What about your relationship with God? What about your own inner self? Sin creates strife and pain in all of these cases.

Sin keeps us from having a growing relationship with God. When my church ordained me as a minister of the Gospel, my pastor wrote in my Bible: “Waylon, this book will keep you from sin; sin will keep you from this book.”

Maybe this is why God spoke through James calling the church to anguish and grieve over sin. James told them to let their laughter be turned to mourning.

Do you have a tendency to laugh at sin or to think of it as some little thing? Do you have a “boys will be boys” mentality?

God called on the church and individual believers to deal seriously with sin. He demanded that they humble themselves. A mark of true humility is taking our sin seriously and turning in submission toward God.

When  you draw near to God in submission and humility, he will draw near to you.

  1. “When  you draw near to God in submission and humility, He will draw near to you.”

This is a True and Faithful saying.

Unfortunately, the prosperity and fellowship offered is unrealized this side of eternity as much today as it was for Stephen and many others who stood God’s Ground before society.

When the Body of Believers matures, then perhaps the Promises of God will be realized as He intended on both sides of Eternity, Romans 12, the Book of James, etc. Sin has masterful ways of presenting its “reality.”

Keep up the good work, it is hard.

    Blessings.
