You Should Say Something

Last year I had the wonderful privilege of attending the National Prayer Breakfast at the invitation of my good friend Michael Sprague. It was a great highlight for me. We heard Eric Metaxas speak and Robert Griffin, III, give the closing prayer.

This week I listened to the prayer breakfast for this year. Dr. Ben Carson, the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, delivered the main address. It is a wonderful message. I have included the link so that you can view as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFb6NU1giRA&feature=youtu.be

Dr. Carson has a love for Jesus and a compelling life story. I have sent the link to my older grandchildren because he talks about having Jesus as his role model and the importance of education. His is an entertaining and helpful message.

Dr. Carson spoke of the danger of political correctness. Our nation is a nation of ideas and the freedom to express those ideas. Most of his speech should touch Christian people. The following part was particularly helpful.

He told the (old) story of a son who loved sending his mom exotic gifts for Mother’s Day. Of course, after a while, he ran out of unusual gifts. Then, he heard of birds that could sing, dance, and talk. He bought two for $5,000 each and sent them to his mother. After Mother’s Day, he called his mother and asked what she thought of the birds. Her answer: “they were gooood!” Flabbergasted, he asked: “mama, you didn’t eat those birds. They cost $5,000 each. They could sing and dance. They could talk!”

This is what his mother replied: “They should have said something.”

You and I should do the same. God has given us to be a light to the nations. He has called us to help our friends and neighbors know Christ and His saving power. We should speak up and say something to bless our families, friends, and the people of the world.

Thanks for your comments on the “Living Debate.”

You have just underscored with this and the last three messages the reasons we, who have the message, are not doing a better job in the Debate. It takes “many members of one Body!” Romans 12:5 Those “Who bet the farm,Those Who “won’t quit,” Those Who are “radical for Jesus,” Those Who are ”Watchmen,” Those Who have “eyes to See and ears to Hear”, Those Who, “just Love Jesus more, Those Who, Make Christ their “reality.”

    1 Timothy 1:8-10

    Blessings

  2. I live in Pennsylvania . I listened to Ben Carson’s speech . He was good . I heard that Cal Thomas syndicated columnist say that Ben owes Obama an apology . Nothing that I heard needs to be apologized for . More people need to speak out .

  3. Thanks so much for making Dr. Carson’s speech available so I could watch the body language of potus the whole time….very revealing. Marge

Well… I just heard the message… A bit hard to see with tear filled eyes…

Thank you for the link. I caught Dr. Carson on Fox earlier this week being interviewed. Yes, he brings Hope.

I just came in from working. This morning Charter sent a technician out to change the modem and the main feed to the pole. His accident sounded Russian so I asked him about it. He told me he came here on a Green card seven months ago. I noticed his laptop screen was in Russian. I asked him where he learned English. He said mostly here. He seemed to understand and speak quite well. I apologized for only being able to say yes, no and farewell in Russian. I noticed that his cream colored late model Dodge Caravan had Illinois plates and no inspection sticker. He said he drove it down from Chicago and now was living in Covington. He won his Green card by lottery. There is now no more lottery, he said. I asked him if he knew where First Baptist Covington was located. He said no, but he knew where Walgreens and CVS at 1085 were and then remembered that building off Hwy. 1085. I told him I knew he was working and couldn’t talk much, but was he interested in information about First Baptist Church. The answer being “yes,” I gave him last Sunday’s Vision with a brief tour though it.

If Alexis, young man neat cut sandy brown hair, about 25, 145 pounds, 5’ 9” shows up saying Ed Matthew sent me, will you help me win the Debate for one more?

By the way, if you want to have more than “lawyers” in Government, then elect others. Candidates from other disciplines run, but are usually not as well funded, usually are not as well connected or as well spoken; and pander to their audience less. Both Parties tend to want to “win” more than “improve our political lot” to problem solve with principled substance. If there is no movement to support change locally, there will never be change nationally. The same type issues Dr. Carson brought up about tax issues “to get” someone can be used by lawyers to attack those “less schooled” in Law. Those “other than lawyer candidates” need a network that include legal support just a Ministers do. Use the same logic Dr. Carson used for getting the uneducated, educated.

    Blessings.
