Why I’ve Enjoyed “The Bible” Series

I have really enjoyed the History Channel’s series entitled: “The Bible.” I look forward each week to see what is happening next. I am looking forward to the resurrection and to each succeeding episode.

Here’s why.

First, the Bible is exciting and filled with adventure. The video presentation simply helps us to “see” what is found in it. These producers like action. In the Bible, they have found the right source to give them action.

Second, the video presentation is really another interpretation of the events. For example, in the first part of the series you could see the interpretation of the writers, producers, and directors in the near sacrifice of Isaac. They showed you the possible reaction of Sarah. Though the Bible does not tell what Sarah knew, the producers help you look at this story from a different perspective. I find it helpful to see how others look at particular events.

By interpretation, I don’t mean making it say whatever you wish. That is what many people mean by interpretation. Interpretation means taking the facts and the context seriously. Any time we read or watch, we interpret. It is important to interpret properly and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Third, God reveals Himself in Scripture. When we read the Bible, we do so to meet God. The video presentations give us another aspect of the Scripture which helps us know God.

I watched the most recent installment with the aid of my DVR. Sunday was a busy day and I was completing my day. Somewhere near 9:00 CDT as Martha watched it live she called and said, “Do you want to see Jesus?” Jesus was being baptized by John and I very much wanted to see Jesus. This is what Scripture is about. It is about knowing God and seeing Jesus.

Though the series could not cover the entire Bible (the third installment covered the 1000 years from David to Jesus), it can help us know God and call us to greater faith in Him.

Finally, this series reminded me of the faithful man John the Baptist. How sad to watch his death by beheading. He truly was the greatest in the previous age. Thank God for obedient people who give their all for God.

We are blessed by them.

  1. AMEN.

The sadness it must bring God for us to discount their (His Saints) service to Him while they are living and more so after they are with us no longer. To be with them (His Saints) in eternity without having built upon their accomplishments for the Kingdom on this side leads me to believe, there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth before the Judgement Seat.

Thank God for the Remnant, the spark from which revival may burn into the hearts of man the debate of Real Life here and hereafter. Romans 12:5, even so Lord, come quickly.
    AMEN

Father, it is all about You! Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven!

    Blessings
