Quotations You Can Use (March 22, 2013)

“Take Christ from Christianity, and you remove the heart from it; there is practically nothing left. Christ is the centre [sic] of Christianity; everything else is peripheral”–John Stott, Basic Christianity, 27.

“The closer you walk with God, the keener will be your receptivity to His Word. If you ignored the last three things God told you to do, why would He give you an exciting, deeper revelation? Instead, He’ll keep bringing you back to the last thing He said until you’re finally ready to respond”–Richard Blackaby.

“You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you”–Augustine.

“As we reflect on the cross, we can begin to understand the terrible implications of these words [Jesus became sin for us]. At twelve noon ‘darkness came over the whole land’, which continued for three hours until Jesus died. With darkness came silence, for no eye should see, and no lips could tell, the agony of soul which the spotless Lamb of God was now enduring. The accumulated sins from the whole of human history were laid upon him. Voluntarily he bore them in his own body. He made them his own. He took full responsibility for them. And then, in desolate spiritual abandonment, a cry was wrung from his lip, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ “–John Stott, Basic Christianity, 94.

“Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go . . .to  move forward”–C.S. Lewis.

  1. Thanks!

As much as I enjoy C. S. Lewis and find wisdom in the quote, I am reminded of Jeremiah’s Confession of Faith: “Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. My soul has them still in remembrance, and it humbled in me. This I recall to mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s Mercies that we are not consumed, because His Compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is Thy Faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I Hope in Him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him.” Lamentations 3: 19 – 25.

Blackaby also said, “Look for where God is working and join Him.” I find it convenient that for most “Christians” this is a one way street. Consequently I have come to a better understanding of how God’s Temple in Jerusalem was plundered, destroyed, the Ark of the Covenant lost and many buildings (“churches”) since. Failure of implementation of Romans 12:5.

Some things never change, “The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences.” Winston Churchill

“Lessons learned regarding the consequences of natural and Divine Laws is that it is not if the will come, it is when they come. Consequences will come to the just and the unjust; and fairness has nothing to do with it.”

    Blessings
