After Boston

The events of the last two days in Boston are becoming more clear with three killed and 140 injured. Six or seven of those injured are in critical condition and many have lost limbs. On top of all this, Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi received the deadly poison ricin in the mail. As one commentator stated: “this has a 9/11 feel.”

What do we do after Boston?

My plan is to do after Boston exactly what I have done since 9/11.

First, I intend to gather with others at church, ballgames, and community events. It’s not good to be alone, and I don’t intend to be alone. More than anything, I need the encouragement and strength of my fellow believers.

If you have a tendency to isolate yourself, I would encourage you to join with others in prayer and worship. God made you for fellowship–with Him and with others. We do better when we are in company of other people, especially those who are of the household of faith.

Second, after Boston I intend to continue to be aware of my surroundings. We must recognize we live in a fallen world of rebellion, anger, and rage. We need to know where we are.

We need to be aware of our surroundings whether or not there are terrorists.

Third, after Boston let’s live as God told us. When Israel went into exile in Babylon God told the people of Israel to go on with life. They were to build houses, plant gardens, and get married and have sons and daughters (Jeremiah 29:5-6). God told them to seek the general welfare of the city where they lived and to pray to the Lord on its behalf (Jeremiah 29:7).

Finally, after Boston let us recognize this world is not our home. It wasn’t our home before, and it is not our home now. Let us prepare the people around us–especially our own households–for the coming of the Lord and of our eternity with Him.

Also, I may fly my flag and give thanks for those who serve others.

  1. Well said Waylon. I always love spending time with fellow believers. Also, as a follower of Christ, there is an urgency to share the gospel to a lost and hurting world.

  2. Well said.

As one who sought to follow the God Honoring pattern of my Father who understood the frailty of life (from up close and personal experiences) and the need to be diversified I heartily endorse your suggestions.

    Blessings

  3. Thanks so much Waylon for this important reminder to not allow terrorist activities to work— that is, cause us to live in fear. My prayer is that the Love of Christ will penetrate into the darkness from which such atrocious acts are conceived. And I’m gonna fly my flag too!
