Five Habits To Change Your Life

Does your life need to improve? Do you face circumstances which seem overwhelming? What can you do to make life better?

Unfortunately, we often look in the temporary areas for change. We should be looking for long term solutions to the needs of our lives.

I want to suggest five habits that can bring permanent change for your life.

First, practice the presence of God. In the 1600’s a French kitchen worker so exhibited the presence and power of God that a book was written about Him. Brother Lawrence practiced God’s presence in His life and showed others how to experience God’s presence as well.

God is Spirit. He is omni-present. Acknowledge God’s presence in your life. It will make a tremendous difference to spend your day with Him.

Second, get serious with Scripture. Develop a serious reading plan. I often suggest the 90 day plan to read the New Testament. Read three chapters a day between now and Labor Day and you will have read the entire New Testament.

The goal is not simply to complete it but to let Scripture speak to your life.

Third, join a week by week Bible Study group in your church. These groups go by various names but the most common is “Sunday School.” Many people misunderestimate the power of these groups to effect positive change.

Fourth, pray FOR your spouse. If husbands or wives pray at all, they usually pray about their spouse. Power and change come when we pray for them. We all know the needs of our mates. Pray for them and watch God bring change.

Fifth, look for someone to bless. These needs are everywhere. Find someone to bless each day and you will be blessed.

A word of warning: change doesn’t come in a fast food line; it comes by spending time with God and carrying out those habits which can make a real difference.
