When You Live In A Dark Time

Each day around the world, 80,000 people come to faith in Christ. That is 3333 per hour each day. In another way of looking at this, we have a pentecost (Acts 2) with 3,000 people saved every hour.

Each day around the world more than 500 new churches are formed. The world contains more than 2 billion Christians, which is one-third of the world’s population.(Later in the week, I will expand these statistics. They are hopeful signs).

These are wonderful times for the Christian faith–except in North America and Europe.

Who can dispute we live in a dark time in America? The Nones–those who hold to no faith–are increasing in number. Our culture is going downward and morality is decreasing. Soon the Supreme Court of the United States will hand down two rulings on same-sex marriage. Even the thought that the court would have dealt with this subject two decades ago is incomprehensible.

Where do we go and what do we do in a dark time?

First, we must go to God and depend on the work of the Holy Spirit. Unless we spend time with God we cannot expect power from God.

Could the problem with the culture really be the problem with the church? Are we trying to program our way out of a spiritual problem?

It is time for the church to look for its power where the early church received power. We must be people who seek God and His way.

In a dark time, we must live in the light.

Second, we must live our faith. If Christians divorce at the same rate as the world, can we expect the world to come to the church for answers?

We must return to the Scripture and live our faith according to the teaching of Scripture.

Third, we must make friends with the people of the world without compromising the truth of the Scripture. This is tricky and demands we follow number one above.

We must live faithfully and get to know our neighbors and co-workers. Relationship evangelism will be the key in a dark world.

Remember this: we live in a world like that of the first century. In that dark world of immorality, violence, and religions of every kind, the Gospel message exploded.

I pray for that in our dark time.

  1. That is why Romans 12:5 is so important. “You are the Light of the world!” As expressed in John 1:5, and Matthew 5:14.
    Important to the World.
    Important to Heaven.
Important to each other in the Bride.
    Important to Christ.

    Blessings

  2. This is so true. Thanks so much for keeping me on the mailing list. We are getting settled here and are continuing our search for a church home. We found a wonderful church, but unfortunately it’s in Ft. Lauderdale. It’s called Church by the Sea and is where our younger daughter is getting married in March. I’ll keep you posted. Please tell Martha hi for me.

    1. Will do. BTW, Martha is now writing a blog. You can see it at Marthabailey.wordpress.com.
We miss you here but will pray for you to find a great place to worship.

  3. Yes, the problem with the culture has everything to do with the problem with the church. The church has lost her light and shine and is now swallowed up by the world and it is time for an authentic revival of the church. Follow @Revival4Now on Twitter.
