What Does God Think Of Our Worship?

My last post asked “The Most Important Question About Worship.” I believe the most important question we can ask about worship is “What does God want to say to me in worship?”

When we constantly ask that question and seek the answer of God we will truly make worship meaningful. Worship will be the way our Lord planned it to be. We will find it to be immensely satisfying and wonderfully helpful.

I believe there is an additional question which fits in the same realm. That is, “What does God think of my worship?”

Malachi’s prophecy to the people of Israel and Jerusalem about 450 BC dealt almost exclusively with what God thought of their worship.

Malachi called out people and priests for their uncaring worship. They obviously were going through the motions and missing God in the process. Malachi demanded that the people seek God and give their best to Him.

Malachi knew the people’s gifts–both sacrifices and offerings–were an outward sign of an inward problem. They offered God blemished sacrifices because they had a blemished view of God.

Malachi challenged them to offer those kinds of gifts to their Persian Governor. Would he accept those kinds of gifts? Would they even think of offering those gifts to him?

Their deficient view of God showed up in their deficient offerings. They never would have thought of offering meaningless gifts to their governor. This meant they thought of God as weak and unseeing. Though they proclaimed God to be the Lord and a great God, they lived a practical atheism.

What does God think of your worship? Are you prepared? Have you anticipated worship? Are you giving Him the best of your time and treasure?

All this week I have been writing about various aspects of worship. If you would like to read these blogs about worship and interact with me about them, please go to waylonbailey.com. You can also subscribe at the top of the page to receive a reminder email each time I post a new message.
