What God Says About Prayer

Prayer is at the heart of our relationship with God. We know we should pray, and we know we need to pray.

What does God say about prayer? Among many other statements about prayer He tells us the following:

First, God calls us to come boldly to Him in prayer. We are to approach the very throne of grace as we call on Him.

Sometimes people will say they don’t want to bother God with little things. Remember, everything is little to God. God cares, and He desires that we come before Him.

We also often say we don’t deserve to come before the throne. That’s why this verse is so important. God invites–even commands–us to boldly call on Him, knowing that our Father cares for us. He wants us to “receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

Second, God calls us to cast all of our cares on Him, because he cares for us. Rather than assuming we shouldn’t ask for God’s favor and protection, God encourages us to ask of Him. He cares for His children. He desires the best for us. He wants us to cast all our anxiety on Him (1 Peter 5:7).

Third, God tells us to ask, seek, and knock. In fact, our asking, seeking, and knocking works within God’s plan and character to open the windows of heaven for us.

God wants us to ask. God is the loving and caring Heavenly Father who wants to give good gifts to His children. If we know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more does our Father give good gifts to those who ask Him (Matthew 7:7-11).

God cares for you, and He is ready to hear from you now.
