Obeying God

“God’s Word insists that we can’t merely know and teach truth; we must embody it. We have to apply it to our lives. We must submit ourselves to the authority of Scripture and the claims of the gospel not merely intellectually but also in our thought, in our careers, in our relationships. Truth that is divorced from personal practice is hypocrisy, and living truth becomes a living lie when we fail to obey it ourselves”–Joshua Harris, Humble Orthodoxy.

“Most people want Jesus as a consultant rather than a king”–Timothy Keller.

“A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t”–Charles H. Spurgeon.

“Saying no to God, no matter how small the task, is a sure way to suspend the growth process. Of course, rather than a straight-out no, some people simply procrastinate–which isn’t as abrupt but is equally defiant. Or some merely give lip service to obedience, affirming the rightness of what God requires, yet staying put. Others make excuses about how inadequate they are to obey what God is telling them. However it’s packaged, when you say no to God, you cease to mature spiritually”–Richard Blackaby, Unlimiting God.

“What an incredible witness it is to a lost and fearful society when the Christian acts like a child of God, living under the loving sovereignty of the Heavenly Father”–Henry Blackaby.

“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22).
