Seven Blessings of Knowing God

Paul’s letter to the Romans is a very logical message. For this reason, it contains a number of “therefores.” Because of who God is and because of what God has done, there are certain things we can expect and certain things we can do.

In Romans 5:1-11, Paul gives seven blessings we have because we have been justified by faith. Christ died for us and called us to trust Him. Through faith, God has declared us “not guilty.”

Here are seven benefits and blessings of being not guilty and knowing God through faith.

First, we have peace with God (Romans 5:1). God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. We who were at war have now been redeemed and set free, giving us peace with God.

Second, we have access to God (Romans 5:2a). We, like the the Gentiles of Paul’s day, were far off from God. God has now brought us close to Him. The New Testament describes at least two pictures of this access. When Jesus died He tore the veil of the temple (Luke 23:45) and He broke down the wall of partition (Ephesians 3:14).

Third, we have a glorious hope. Our hope in Christ is for today and for forever  (Romans 5:2b).

Fourth, we are being conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 5:3-4). God uses the sequence of suffering to mold our character–tribulation–patience–proven character–hope.

Fifth, we have God’s love within us (Romans 5:5). His love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

Sixth, we have deliverance from future wrath (Romans 5:6-10). Christ died for us while we were sinners. If God saved us when we were His enemies, how much more will He keep saving us now that we are His children. Because He lives, we are eternally saved. What a blessing to know we belong to God (by what He did for us).

Seventh, we have fellowship with God (Romans 5:11). We are at one with God because of His work on our behalf. What a blessing and joy to live in the presence of God!

Sometimes people will ask what you get from knowing Christ. Romans 5 gives a powerful answer to the question.

Today, may we live in the joy of relationship with Christ.

  2. May I be so bold, as to add an eighth candle with a.-e. bullets?

    8. We are to be more than conquerers in Christ Jesus while in our flesh.
    a) We have the frustration of Christ with His disciples when they just didn’t get it.
    b) We have the frustration of the Disciples who lamented that they just didn’t get it sooner and the same frustration in the flesh when others “don’t get it.”
    c) We have the frustration of Paul who ‘spelled out’ the meaning of the Old Testament, Torah, Purpose of the Chosen, not extended (reaching out) and charged (behaving) as He expected, but pressed on anyway.
    d) We have the reminder that from the Beginning (you can say it in Hebrew) in God’s Rest He equipped His to work together to accomplish His Purpose.
    e) We get to share “all of the above,” being reminded: it is not just about us.

    Blessings
