Billy Graham and the Favor of God

Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about Billy Graham. Late last week, Franklin Graham, Billy’s son and the head of Samaritan’s Purse, noted that his father had gotten weaker than he’s ever seen him. He also noted that something as simple as a cold could do him in.

I’ve also been thinking about Billy Graham and the favor of God. As you look at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, it’s hard not to see the favor of God on this group and on Billy Graham. Of course, I don’t mean that Billy Graham had a perfect or an easy life. In our fallen and rebellious world, we all have difficulties and troubles.

Look at the “team” of Billy Graham, Cliff Barrows, and George Beverly Shea.

George Beverly Shea, America’s Beloved Gospel Singer, died this year at age 104. At age 100 he donated the organ he played to Angola Penitentiary for use in their chapel. I preached in that chapel at about the time of George Beverly Shea’s death and was touched to see the organ.

Last month Billy Graham turned 95 and broadcast a final? message entitled “My Hope.” Many people were touched by the message and the testimonies of God’s power.

Cliff Barrows, the youngster of the three, is 90 years old and going strong. I read his “Life Lessons” on his 90th birthday.

When I think of these three with their lives committed to God, I see God’s favor–not just on their ministry, but on their lives. All have lived lives of integrity, and all three lived past 90 years old.

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers” (Psalm 1:1-3).

  1. For “where there is no Vision, the people perish. But he that delights in the Law of the Lord, happy is he.”

Thank you for this, another example, the emphasis of Romans 12:4&5. A Designed Compliment, the Members in His Body/Bride to achieve His Purpose. May we heed the Example, Know His Favor. AMEN.

    Blessings

  2. “Last month Billy Graham turned 95 and broadcast a final? message entitled “My Hope.” Many people were touched by the message and the testimonies of God’s power.” The ? mark was my response to this statement.
Billy Graham preaches the unending, unfailing message of The Gospel of Jesus Christ. God has used and continues to use Brother Billy to share The Gospel. Who knows how God will use him and his legacy today and tomorrow?
Surely there is more to harvest than we have seen or can imagine! I am thankful for Brother Billy and pray for him and his family.
    Psalm 1:1-3 … AMEN!!
