The Price Of Leadership

“It’s not so much that we’re afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it’s that place in between that we fear. . . . It’s like being between trapezes. It’s Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There’s nothing to hold on to”–Marilyn Ferguson.

“Change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have–and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up”–James Belasco and Ralph Stayer.

“After living with their dysfunctional behavior for so many years, people become invested in defending their dysfunctions rather than changing them”–Marshall Goldsmith.

“If you want to make enemies, try to change something”–Woodrow Wilson.

“Some spiritual leaders try to be more committed. What they need is to be more submitted”–Henry Blackaby.

“To have a championship-type team, you’ve got to have leaders that really raise the bar for the rest of their teammates. It can’t just be coaches”–Gus Malzahn.

“I very much doubt if it is possible to be faithful and popular at the same time. I fear we have to choose”–John Stott.

  1. Amen…
“…I have lived my life before God in all good conscience until this day.” But the high priest Ananias ordered those who were standing next to him to strike him in the mouth.” Acts 23: 1,2.

“Go to this people and say: ‘You will listen and listen, yet never understand; and you will look and look, yet never perceive. For this people’s heart has grown callous, their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and be converted- and I would heal them.’” Acts 28: 26,27.

“Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function. On the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members one of another. According to the grace given to us we have different gifts:…” Romans 12: 4-6

Quotes from the Holman Christian Standard Bible

“… that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights…” How the USA began and is being lost by each turning to their own way; no longer members of any body but one that serves them for the moment.

    Blessings

  2. Thank you so much for your post. I am currently going through a trying time leading our church through change. The quote from Woodrow Wilson hit home and encouraged me. Thank you so much!

    1. Leading a church is hard work. God chose you for a special reason. Give Him your best.
This is what I try to remember–I will not stand before others at the day of judgment, but before God alone. Do your best to please Him.
