Prayers That Count

“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me”–John 17:20-23.

“O God, give me Scotland, or I die”–John Knox.

“Do not limit God by your thoughts of what may be expected”–Andrew Murray.

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”–Matthew 6:9-13.

“O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turn their hearts back”–Elijah on Mount Carmel, 1 Kings 18:36-37.

  1. I have been praying for a Third Great Awakening ever since the Fall of 1973, pleading often the promises and prophecies which Jonathan Edwards recorded in his Humble Attempt, the work that inspired the prayer meetings and men such as Andrew Fuller, William Carey, Luther Rice, Adoniram Judson and others to launch the Great Century of Missions or the modern missionary movement. As my knowledge of God’s word has increased, I have begun to pray for the Awakening of a Thousand Generations (I Chonr.16:15) and every lost soul in those generations whether on earth or scattered across the starry expanse on a quadrillion worlds in the period that could last from 20,000-900,000 years, all just to fulfill the promise of Rev. 7:9. It is serious agonizing business. I often wonder what such praying had to do with the shortening of Spurgeon’s life as his Evening by Evening Devotions indicate that he prayer for every soul on earth in two instances.(on Aug. 6 or 7 and Dec. 24).

  2. The Lord looks upon the heart.
I thank you for the reminders of Prayers that Count!
My heart grieves for the possibilities lost; the Potential unrealized.

“…the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness. And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that has a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. And when this comes to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet has been among them.”

I see the work of the many who seek God’s Face around you. And, I am encouraged. AMEN

    Blessings

  3. Hannah as I, ask for what we cannot keep to give in service to Him Who placed us in the position for yielding Fruit for His Kingdom. And yet, both of us are dependent upon the Authority over us in this world to have a Just Prayer answered.
    Interesting.
