Hey Russ, Why Not You?

Like most Americans, I watched Super Bowl XLVIII Sunday night. It wasn’t much of a game, but like all games it had some great take-a-ways.

The post-game interview that meant the most to me was the interview with winning quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson is really too small to play quarterback in today’s National Football League. He’s only 5’11” but he plays much bigger. He’s smart, fast, and tough. Russell Wilson is only in his second season in the NFL, but he’s already a Super Bowl Champion.

What makes him so good? Obviously, his speed, arm strength, and intelligence set him apart, but there has to be other, intangible qualities that make him a champion.

After the game, he related what he did at the beginning of the year. He said to his teammates, “Why not us?” Pam Oliver, the sideline reporter for Fox Sports, asked, “Isn’t that what your dad asked you?” Russell Wilson responded, “He said, ‘hey Russ, why not you?”

Russell Wilson’s dad is deceased but he continues to make a difference in his son’s life. “Hey Russ, why not you?”

Moms and Dads, you get to plant thoughts in your children. These are thoughts that will carry them through life. You can plant negative or positive thoughts. You get to decide.

Every child needs someone who believes in them, who will tell them that he can. Russell Wilson had a dad who told him he could and now he’s a Super Bowl champion.

Heroes are not born; they are made. What will you make of the children God has given you?

Today, you have the opportunity to bless your child with positive affirmation and unconditional love.

Why not you?

  1. In the past you spoke on the emasculation of the males of America. It sounds like a “Trending” topic. The “question” raised from a father to a son is one that a son is not likely to forget. “ASNF” is an acronym around which a story was told. Biblical principles are lived out by Parents who Train, Pray and Expect their children to grow up to be better people then they were.

On and off the field Sunday were two examples. Both showed character. I know that one of them was raised to honor God in all circumstances. I am thankful to God for Archie and Olivia to have reared Men of Honor. May we be as successful.

  2. Bob, I tried the site. It comes up for facebook people, I’m not one. Perhaps there is a way I don’t know. I await instruction, always.
However, I did get to see an interview with Russell’s wife. She had some profound insights to their life and success. If they are not Christians, we can still learn from them God like qualities of: looking to be like the best you can find in life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awDfSuQ41Cc&list=PLihQMgSL9261iS76f2O6gShMkvyY3hP8x
Insert the above into your search engine: Getting to know Ashton Wilson. 12 minutes on their courtship, life together and work ethic.

    1. Ed, go to YouTube and search for Pastor Mark Driscolls interview with Seahawk players after the Super Bowl. I’m sure you will find it this way.
