You Don’t Have To Worry

It’s easy to worry and it’s hard not to.

At the heart of worry is a reliance on myself and a refusal to depend on God. We all know worry is bad for us and we all know it even hurts the people around us.

How do we keep from worry?

First, spend time in Scripture. Isn’t it awesome how the Word of God speaks to the real needs of our lives?

Human nature has never changed. People in ancient times worried and so do we. Scripture teaches us to depend on God and trust Him for all of life.

Two wonderful passages about worry are found in the New Testament. Jesus told us to trust and not to worry (Matthew 6:25-34). Paul told us to pray and not to be anxious (Philippians 4:4-9). In fact, his words are so powerful: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6).

If you struggle with worry, why not read those passages everyday and ask God to help you to trust Him?

Second, take all your needs to God. Jesus talked about the basics of life–food, clothing, shelter. He told us that God knows our needs and provides for everything. Paul talked about praying at any occasion when we feel worry and anxiety.

Third, plan wisely. The Proverbs tell us to go the ant and observe their behavior–work not worry. As you pray, pray before you make decisions. Instead of asking God to bail you out, ask Him to instruct you in righteousness and to gently guide you through life.

Finally, make Him your primary concern. Put your life in God’s hands. Ask Him to lead you through your day. “Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern” (Matthew 6:32-33).

There is no better way to live than with reliant trust in your Heavenly Father.

  1. Thanks, to both you and Martha, you feel me everyday. Sometiimes, worry gets the best of me, but do you think God, understands when we just bow to him and listen in silence because its hard to find the words to say.
Going through another trial, but praying. Thanks again.

    1. Yes, I very much believe God hears and understands–even in our silence. Actually, the part we often leave out of prayer is simple listening.
May God bless you in your trial.
