Your Forever Family

The church of the Lord Jesus Christ is unique. It is the multi-racial, multi-cultural body founded by Christ to welcome all and to make all people new in Him.

There simply is nothing like it in all of human history.

Think with me about what makes the church unique.

1. Christ created the church by dying for it. Through His death–a deliberate act to create for Himself a people–Christ founded His church and gave it the mission to reach others with its message. By shedding His blood for us, Christ ransomed us. He redeemed us from slavery to sin, self, and Satan. By His stripes we are healed.

2. The church was created for people who don’t deserve it. No matter where you go, you seem to have to prove that you belong. In the church, you enter when you recognize you don’t belong. We can be members of the kingdom of God and the local church because we recognize our sin and accept God’s grace.

The church has more to do with who we will become than who we have been.

3. The church was founded to knock down walls and demolish barriers. In the old system and throughout history, division has been the rule in society, We are divided by races, classes, and nations. Christ created the church to change that. His blood–not ours–is our entry into His body.

The origin of the church, its chief purpose, and its composition are found in these wonderful words as the elders sang a new song around the throne of God: “You [Christ] are worthy to receive the scroll and open its seals, because you were killed. And with your own blood you bought for God people from every tribe, language, nation, and race” (Revelation 5:9-10).

4. The church is eternal. It is God’s “Forever Family.” We belong to Him.

He ransomed us to make us His own.

“Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for the spiritual blessings that Christ has brought us from heaven!” (Ephesians 1:3).
