How to Fix a Heartbleed

Late yesterday I received notification from one of my apps that they fixed the Heartbleed bug.

The Heartbleed bug is an internet-wide security vulnerability. According to my sources, Heartbleed attacts the OpenSSL framework which is used by many websites to privately send data. Got that?

The good news? They fixed it and all I have to do is log back in and reset my password. This is a minor inconvenience without any lasting consequences–at least for now.

When these kinds of things happen, I am reminded of several truths.

First, we all have a heart problem. The heart problem is the greatest problem anyone faces. It’s a recurring issue with eternal consequences.

Yesterday Thom Rainer wrote an article about the narcissitic leader–the kind of person who values self over others. This, too, is a heart problem. Heart problems have to be dealt with quickly and decisively. Rainer calls for people to look within and to repent. If you would like to read the article, you can click here: http://thomrainer.com/2014/04/09/narcissistic-christian-leader/

Second, all earthy treasure–even your online information–is temporal and transitory. “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal.” Better to “store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves” (Matthew 6:19-20).

Third, you must guard your heart. In the Bible, it’s hard to distinguish the heart from the mind. This is the source of all that happens in your life (Proverbs 4:23, amazing how up-to-date the Bible is).

What you think and what you focus on will become who you are. The heart affects everything about you.

We have to set our hearts to delight in spiritual values. The Godly delight in doing everything the Lord wants. They think about His instruction day and night (Psalm 1:2). By doing so, we bring the mind daily under the influence of Scripture.

Then, and only then, we can be ready for all of the difficulties that life brings.
