The Struggle Within

“So what is meekness? It feels like a weak character trait to me. However, meekness is not docility or timidity. Rather it is humility and patience while under provocation from others. This is certainly not one of my greatest strenghts. As my self-will takes over my calling to godliness, my pursuit to prove myself right takes over. How blind I am!. . . .Meekness is power under control with gentleness and respect. My dad used to say the picture of meekness is a wild horse under the control of a bridle. I think I need a bridle. Thank God He has one!”–Bob Snyder.

“A critical spirit is rooted in pride; it is one of the most difficult sins to eliminate. It is quick to point out the sins of others, but unable to see its own. . . .These sins: envy, bitterness, retaliation, critical spirit–are just as evil as immorality. We need to pray daily that God would reveal these sins in us, and replace them with good”–John Kincaid.

“For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. . . .Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!–Romans 7:18-25.
