Pursuing Holiness

“To be holy is to be morally blameless. It is to be separated from sin and, therefore, consecrated to God. The word signifies “separation to God, and the conduct befitting those so separated”–Jerry Bridges.

“We think of holiness as avoiding impurity, but holiness includes obedience to God. To be holy, we must say with Jesus, ‘Here I am, I have come to do God’s will.’ Heb. 10:7. Holiness is more than separation from the pollution of our culture. Holiness calls us to obey God even when it is uncomfortable, dangerous, or requires costly sacrifice. . . . God blesses obedience”–John Kincaid.

“Not many people want holiness, but God does”–Waylon Bailey.

“There is no greater disaster for the human heart than this–to believe we have found life apart from God”–John Eldredge.

“Never let any sin become acceptable. No sin is harmless. Whenever you think ‘it’s just one little sin’, you reinforce the old habit instead of the new one. It is a subtle dangerous trap”–John Kincaid.

“It is not the importance of the thing, but the majesty of the Lawgiver, that is to be the standard of obedience. . . . Some, indeed, might reckon such minute and arbitrary rules as these as trifling. But the principle involved in obedience or disobedience was none other than the same principle which was tried in Eden at the foot of the forbidden tree. It is really this: Is the Lord to be obeyed in all things whatsoever He commands? Is He a holy Lawgiver? Are His creatures bound to give implicit assent to His will?”–Andrew Bonar.
