People Who Could Lead Small Countries

Years ago, I was so impressed with the Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church that I said the leadership team could lead a small country.

I haven’t changed my judgment about the planning and leadership of FBC’s Vacation Bible School.

This has been a great week–just the kind of week that we wanted to take place. Of course, things could have been better–a little less rain the previous week would have helped. One of the areas that I appreciate about our leadership team is their willingness to evaluate and to make next year’s VBS even better.

Let me give you a quick report and then I’ll tell what I like about our VBS.

We enrolled over 1600 children and adults with over 1200 in attendance each day. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had over 1300 present. We saw numerous decisions for Christ and a lot of new and unchurched people introduced to our church.

Here’s what I like:

Our VBS is open to the community and includes all who want to study the Bible and hear about Christ.

The Gospel is clearly and plainly presented. We are aware that some of these children may only hear the Gospel in their lifetime through the VBS of FBC. Martha prayed Monday with exactly that idea in mind. What a tremendous responsibility God has entrusted to us!

Our VBS is centered on Christ with an eye toward eternity.

I like how our VBS keeps 6th graders involved. They came in droves and provided leadership for the younger kids.

Lifeway hit a homerun with the theme Agency D3. It speaks to this age about discovering the truth and deciding for the truth. It also helps our church kids defend the truth. The kids thought it was cool week.

I like the time, money, and effort FBC entrusts in VBS. May God use our efforts for His glory.

  1. I am always amazed at how much even the pre-school age children want to learn about Christ and how excited they are when they hear something new. Thanks so much to FBC Covington for providing the place and tools for teaching them. These children are the future of Evangelism.

  2. I am so proud that our pastors are out every day greeting people and helping with security, and that our WHOLE congregation contributes their time and money to this endeavor. I feel FBC really shows the community our love through VBS.
