Searching for Glowworms

Martha and I have been searching for Glowworms lately.

Of course, we first had to figure out what glowworms are. While reading “The Secret of Guidance” by F.B. Meyer we ran across an interesting quotation concerning glowworms.

Meyer described how to discern the direction and guidance of God. He talked about what he called the three witnesses or the three lights–the three are the teaching of the Word, the leading of the Spirit, and the circumstances of life. As these three come together, they become a guide for life.

Meyer said,”If you do not know what you want to do, stand still until you do. And when the time comes for action, circumstances, like glowworms will sparkle along your path.”

He simply meant that God wants to guide us and lead us in life.

Glowworms, by the way, are normally found in Europe and actually do glow in the dark. While they aren’t found generally in the United States, if you think about fireflies – what I grew up calling” lightning bugs” – you have an idea what a glowworm is.

Meyer simply said that when we yield our lives to God and look to the three witnesses we can receive “the secret of guidance.”

Is he correct, does God truly want to give us His guidance?

Think of these great promises of God.

Psalm 32:8: “I will point out the road that you should follow. I will be your teacher and watch over you.”

Or, Proverbs 3:6:–my life verse–“Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow.”

Jesus said: “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won’t be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life” (John 8:12).

God wants to show us His glowworms so that we might know and follow Him and receive guidance for life. Follow Him and you won’t be walking in the dark.
